The city of Tuscaloosa is hosting its second summer camp for stuffed animals this week at the Tuscaloosa National Airport. Children of all ages are encouraged to drop off their plush toys at the airport, located at 7601 Robert Cardinal Airport Road, for the night. At 10 a.m. Friday, each stuffed animal “owner” can pick up their stuffed animal and celebrate with a party that includes a VIP tour of the Tuscaloosa National Airport. “Think ‘Elf on a Shelf’ meets ‘Toy Story,’” said Ashley Chambers, the city’s coordinator of environmental education and outreach. “When the stuffed animals are dropped off with our team on Thursday, they will come alive and explore the airport’s many areas. “Events like this are for everyone in our community — and we hope to see local preschools, summer camps, as well as church groups participate.” Chambers said the city’s “event team” will capture the fun with pictures and video, and participants will receive a goody bag and a web link to access the photos of their stuffed animal’s night out.
